Carmignano is in the heart of Tuscany and the location we chose for a cycling and yoga retreat on June of 2016. Close proximity to beautiful Florence yet far enough away to discover the cultural treasures and incredible cycling routes.
We started each morning with sunrise yoga at the base of the medieval fortress built in the 12th century. We ate traditional breakfast and prepared for our day on the bike.
It was surreal to take off on our bikes from the villa to arrive in just over an hour to the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci. We rolled past and even stopped at vineyards to sample local wine. Encouraging one another along the route and knowing we were an anomaly as female cyclist in a country dominated by the opposite gender. Locals were welcoming and engaging. Our guides carefully looked after us and made sure we had support at every turn.
Our evening was spent sipping wine from the neighboring vineyards while reminiscing the exhilarating day of adventure together. The night ended around the table with bellies full of fresh cuisine prepared by Isabella. Our joyous laughter dissipates in the warm night air to meet us again for another day of exploration.
